Victor is a sixteen-year-old mutant. Born and raised in small-town America, he lived a normal life despite his reptilian features. The close-knit community accepted the boy for who he was until anti-mutant sentiment began to spread. For his own safety, his parents sent him to the Xavier Institute where he quickly excelled academically. When the advisor system was set up at the Xavier Institute, Victor chose Karma as his advisor. However, during the formation of training squads throughout the school, he was reassigned to Northstar's Alpha Squadron. At first, he was quite friendly with Hellion and the other Hellions, but now seems closer to his teammates. He was especially close to Northstar and was deeply affected by his death. (He, like most of the students, is unaware of Northstar's resurrection until Northstar was sent by Serafina to kill the X-Men.) Victor is gay, and Northstar helped him to come to terms with his sexuality. It is uncertain whether or not he has yet come out to the rest of the school. Victor's chosen foreign language is French. Anole was one of only 27 students at the Institute who didn't lose his mutant powers in the event known as the M-Day. The squad system was dissolved, and the remaining students were merged into one group. Shortly afterwards, Emma Frost set up an all-out brawl amongst the remaining students to determine who would become the team of X-Men trainees; Victor was not selected, yet still resides and trains at the Institute. When Northstar attacked the Institute, Anole found him and was able to temporarily snap him out of the mind control set in place by the Children of the Vault. However, Victor's joy at seeing his former mentor was short-lived, as Jean-Paul returned to his mind-controlled status and viciously beat him. Victor is seen with many of the other "supporting cast" of students and Rockslide, all listening to a tale Blindfold is making up for them. Soon they realize that her story isn't make-believe, and she apologizes just before the group is sucked down into the dimension of Limbo. They are attacked by a large group of demons, and Victor argues with Rockslide, saying that he's supposed to lead them, since he's a "New X-Man". When Rockslide mysteriously is shattered, Victor attempts to take charge, rallying the students around the defenseless Blindfold, only to have his right arm severed at the shoulder by a demon.
Reptilian mutation gives him green skin, a spiked carapace instead of hair, a prehensile and elastic tongue, the ability to stick to solid surfaces, enhanced agility and the ability to camouflage himself, blending into his surroundings. Anole seemingly has trouble controlling his powers when emotionally unstable.Anole-like Physiology:
Spiked Carapace on Head Enhanced Agility Long Elastic Tongue: incredibly long tongue (apparently longer than his own body length) which he is capable of rapidly and abruptly extending out of the mouth. The tongue has a sticky tip on the end, which serves to catch anything that he would otherwise never be able to reach. Scales, Wallcrawling, Camouflage.
Despite only rare appearances, Anole seems to have developed quite a fan following and has been the student outside of the New Mutants and Hellions squads to be featured regularly. It is unclear what direction Anole's character will take under the new creative staff, but he appeared in New X-Men #21 alongside the regular cast members. In the New X-Men: Yearbook Special #1 it's listed he likes theatre, frisbee and basketball and dislikes traditions and bad action movies. He was voted Best Actor by the student body. Anole was supposed to commit suicide in a jettisoned New Mutants storyline. Writers have been trying to figure out what to do with him next, despite him having become one of their (and many fans') favorites. It was clearly implied through dialogue that Victor was gay, and his sexual orientation was confirmed by the writers online and was recently reaffirmed in The X-Men: 198 Files. One reason why he may not have taken the name "Chameleon" is because there is a Spider-man villain of the same name. |

Warren Worthington III was born in Centerport, New York to Kathryn Worthington and Warren Worthington Jr. He was attending a private school in his adolescence when white, feathered wings began to grow from his shoulder blades. At first Warren felt he was a freak, but he soon learned that he could use his wings to fly and to help people. When there was a fire in his dormitory, he borrowed some props from the school's drama department, dressed up as a "heavenly" angel and rescued his friends. He soon learned that he in fact is a mutant. He donned a mask and costume and called himself the Avenging Angel and was a solo adventurer originally.
He then began attending the Xavier School For Gifted Youngsters, where Professor Charles Xavier trained young mutants to control their powers and use them for good. Taking the code name Angel, Worthington became one of the original members of the superhero team the X-Men.
For a time, he was romantically interested in Jean Grey, but eventually he realized that Jean was in love with Scott Summers and gave up the pursuit.
While pursuing Sauron in the Savage Land, Angel was attacked by Pteranodons and fell to his death. He was brought back to life by an uncostumed Magneto, who was known as Creator in the Savage Land. Presumed dead, Magneto had been gathering a mutant army.
When the original X-Men were captured by the mutant island Krakoa, Professor X created a new team of X-Men to rescue them. When this new team of X-Men decided to stay, Angel and the rest of the original team, with the exception of Cyclops, left the team. He and Iceman went to Los Angeles, where they founded the Champions with Hercules, the Black Widow, and the original Ghost Rider. Following the apparent death of Jean Grey and Cyclops' subsequent exile from the team, Warren rejoined the X-Men to help pick up the slack. During this time, Angel grew increasingly disturbed by the behavior and actions of Wolverine, and after some time quit the team in protest.
He was once kidnapped by the Morlock leader Callisto and stripped of most of his clothing. Callisto attempted to humiliate him. He could not remember anything else at the time as he was unconscious. Just then, Storm, Nightcrawler, Colossus, and Sprite arrived to stop Callisto, but they were also captured by the Morlocks and tied to stakes. Storm struck a deal with Callisto: a battle to the death without powers. They would duel with knives, with the winner keeping Angel and having the leadership of the Morlocks. Storm won, but spared Callisto's life. Shortly thereafter, Angel joined the Defenders.
The Defenders did not last much longer with Angel, Iceman, and Beast being the sole survivors. They had decided to abandon the hero's life, but with the resurrection of Jean Grey, the five original X-Men chose to form X-Factor. During this period, Warren found himself giving Jean more emotional support than Cyclops was, who was going through intense emotional repercussions while trying to deal with the fact that Jean was still alive in conjunction with his own involvement with Madelyne Pryor (who was later revealed to be a clone of Jean).
Archangel
Much later, having joined his teammates as a member of X-Factor, Warren's wings were severely damaged during the Mutant Massacre by Harpoon. Cameron Hodge—whom Warren had known for years and considered a friend, yet was secretly anti-mutant—had his wings amputated. Despondent over the loss of his wings, Warren escaped the hospital and commandeered his private jet, which exploded in the air as the rest of X-Factor watched helplessly from below. It was revealed that Hodge had sabotaged Warren's ultralight airplane to create the illusion that the depressed Warren had tried to commit suicide.
Before the explosion, Warren was spirited away by the ancient mutant Apocalypse. Apocalypse altered Warren's appearance, giving him blue skin, organic metal wings, and the ability to fire his metal feathers as projectiles. He also gave him the title of Death, the leader of his Horsemen. When it appeared as though Death had killed his former teammate Iceman, he overcame Apocalypse's brainwashing. Hungry for revenge, he tracked down Hodge. Hodge had kidnapped Warren's lover, Candy Southern, and killed her. Warren beheaded Hodge with his wings, seemingly killing him (it was later revealed that Hodge's head still lived in the X-Tinction Agenda crossover). Warren did not rejoin X-Factor immediately afterwards, spending some time as a loner called "Dark Angel" due to his state of mind following Southern's death. After the events of Inferno, he finally rejoined X-Factor, taking the name Archangel at Beast's urging. It was around this point that he became romantically involved with Charlotte Jones, a New York City Police officer who helped to rescue Warren and the rest of X-Factor from the Ravens, a cult of near-immortal psychic vampires.
After rejoining the X-Men, Archangel became romantically involved with Psylocke. Warren soon traded in his "Death" garb for his old blue and white costume, signifying he was attempting to put his dark days behind him. After Psylocke was eviscerated by X-Men prisoner Sabretooth during an escape attempt, Warren and the X-Men tracked down and captured him, but not before he was able to badly damage Warren's metal wings. Over time, the damage to his wings spread. Eventually the metal wings shattered completely, revealing that his feathered wings had been growing back within them and broke them apart from the inside. This followed a visit from Ozymandias, who told him that he was indeed one of Apocalypse's chosen ones. Reclaiming his original codename Angel, Warren still retained his blue skin color. Having both experienced drastic changes in their lives, Psylocke and Warren found themselves growing apart, while Psylocke began showing attraction for new X-Men recruit Thunderbird. Realizing they were no longer on the same path, Warren ended their relationship, wishing her happiness in the future.
Warren remained a member of one of the core X-Men teams, where he served as co-leader with Nightcrawler. In a fight with Black Tom Cassidy, Angel experienced a "secondary mutation". His blood gained advanced healing properties, giving him the ability to heal quickly from wounds and allowing him to heal others when his blood is mixed with theirs. This new power "healed" Warren's skin from Apocalypse's alterations, turning his blue pallor back to its original shade. Warren discovered his ability to heal others when he saved the life of teammate Husk (Paige Guthrie) after she was severely injured in battle. He has since become involved in a controversial romance with Paige, who is several years his junior. It was also revealed during The Draco storyline that his blood dealt much pain to Nightcrawler. Also in the same storyline it is hinted by Azazel, Nightcrawler and Abyss's father, that Archangel may actually be related to an ancient civilization of Angel like mutants who had banished Azazel and his people from Earth into another Dimension. Apparently this is the same dimension through which Kurt a.k.a Nightcrawler passes through while teleporting.
Warren and Paige took an extended leave of absence, and Archangel launched a charity called "Mutantes Sans Frontières" in Zanzibar, (a reference to Doctors Without Borders), where he then proceeded to help stop a coup with the aid of Professor X's newest charges from nearby Genosha. In "Excalibur," Warren met up again with Callisto. As Paige reminded Warren of his history with Callisto, Viper attacked. Warren and Callisto then managed to defeat Viper together. In Generation M, it appeared that Angel's wings had shrunken and shriveled into a useless state following the events of House of M. However, it was revealed that Warren had managed to fake losing his mutant abilities in order to lure out The Ghoul, a deranged serial killer who uses his retained mutant powers to murder ex-mutants.
Archangel joined with fellow former Champions member Hercules, along with Namora, and Amadeus Cho to attempt to calm down The Hulk in the Incredible Hulk #107. In their attempts to help save New York City from the destruction, they form a new team of superheroes, called the Renegades.
Powers: Angel has fully feathered wings that span 16' and have a very flexible skeletal structure. He can fly by flapping his wings, and can reach speeds of up to 150 mph. Though he generally flies below the height of clouds at 6,500 feet, Angel can reach a height of 10,000 feet with little effort. His wings are strong enough to carry aloft at least 200 pounds in addition to his own body weight. Angel's entire anatomy is adapted for flight, having hollow bones; a body virtually devoid of fat, granting him enhanced proportionate muscle strength; eyes that can withstand high-speed winds; enhanced eyesight enabling him to see at distances far greater than the average human; and a special respiratory membrane that extracts oxygen from the air at extreme velocities and altitudes.
Angel is a skilled combatant, especially in aerial hand-to-hand combat. He is also a talented businessman whose wealth ranks him in the lower part of the Fortune 500 list. |

Bio: Once a Mutate on the island nation of Genosha, Abyss was among many who contracted the deadly mutant-killing Legacy Virus. Professor Charles Xavier recruited Abyss into the Mutant Underground, a secret cabal of both mutants and pro-mutant human supporters fighting for the vindication of mutantkind, and assigned him as a bodyguard for Genoshan scientist Renee Majcomb who was researching a cure for the Virus. Secreted away deep in the Louisiana bayou, Abyss aided the mutant soldier from the future Cable, his mercenary ally Domino and the techno-organic alien Douglock in preventing First Strike soldiers from the anti-mutant taskforce Operation: Zero Tolerance from capturing Majcomb.
After a cure for the Virus had been released, Abyss found himself in Berlin battling the fire-wielding mutant Fever Pitch. Both were captured by the mutant X-Corps militia led by the former X-Man Banshee. While being held for scientific study, Abyss witnessed the murder of the Japanese mutant Sunpyre by rogue X-Corps members. Following the revelation that the shape-changing mutant terrorist Mystique had infiltrated the X-Corps in an attempt to seize its assets for her own use, a wounded Banshee freed Abyss from his confinement, allowing him to use his power to pull Mystique into the void within his body.
Later, Abyss was mentally compelled to travel to the Caribbean island of Isla des Demonas where he joined the X-Man Nightcrawler and other mutants with teleportation powers in creating a portal to the other-dimensional home of Azazel, a demonic-looking mutant from ancient times who was amassing an army with which to reclaim the Earth. The X-Men arrived to rescue their teammate, and inadvertently caused the collapse of the portal. Many of the teleporters were killed, but not before all assembled were transported through to the other dimension. There, Abyss’ powers acted in reverse, ejecting everything the void within his body had ever pulled in, including Mystique. Azazel subsequently revealed that he was the father of the teleporters, collectively referred to as the Neyaphem, and sought to enlist the aid of Nightcrawler and Abyss in opening another portal to Earth. At that moment, back on Earth, the X-Man Polaris used her magnetic powers to force open the void within Abyss’ body, allowing the heroes to return and leaving Azazel and his followers trapped. Following the advent of "M-Day", Abyss was one of many mutants who were stripped of their mutant nature to become ordinary humans.
Powers: The cells of Abyss' body were extremely pliable, allowing him to unravel it into ribbon-like tendrils with which he can envelop an object or another being and pull it into the void within his body that acts as a portal to another dimension. High emotional states such as fear or anger would have caused Abyss to lose control of his power, resulting in all nearby objects being pulled into the dimension. |

Bio: Angel Salvadore was fourteen years old when her mutant nature first manifested itself and she was driven out of her home by her abusive step-father. The following morning, she awoke and discovered that she had formed a cocoon about herself while she slept and had emerged after sprouting a pair of wings. She was then attacked by U-Men, humans who sought to harvest mutant body parts to graft onto themselves. Angel was rescued by Wolverine who took her to the Xavier Institute where she reluctantly enrolled as a student.
After accepting a bet to kiss Beak, her classmate in the Xavier Institute's "Special Class", Angel grew close to him and they began to see each other romantically. Angel would later reveal to Beak that she was pregnant and she laid pods on the ceiling of a shed on the school grounds. Her pods hatched during an investigation for the murder of Emma Frost where Angel was implicated as being the shooter. Shortly afterwards, Xorn, instructor of the Special Class, revealed himself to be the mutant terrorist Magneto, and Angel was convinced to serve as a member of his latest incarnation of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. Under the leadership of Beak, Angel and other members of the Special Class would rise up against Magneto and help guide the regrouping X-Men back to Magneto's stronghold where he was defeated. Later on Beak was unhinged from time in order to gain experience from every harsh lesson he would learn with the Exiles in order to prepare him for a future event where several worlds will hang in the balance. As a result of his unhinging, he was for a time unable to interact with beings from his home timeline and his family believed him to have run away. Only by serving with the Exiles could he win them back. As a result of the effects of the House of M event, Beak (who got back to his home reality thanks to the Exiles), his wife Angel and their children (except Tito) have lost their powers and thus, their "hideous" appearance, and are now finally able to live happily together again.
Angel later resurfaced, along with her lover Beak, as a member of the newest incarnation of the New Warriors. Now going by the name Tempest, she has gained fire, ice and wind/flight powers given to her through technological means by Night Thrasher. Her relationship with Barnell is noticeably more complacent than it has been in the past.
Powers: She had a partially insectoid anatomy along the lines of the housefly that gave her corrosive spit and insectoid wings that allowed her to fly. To give birth, she laid eggs with a short gestation period. As of M-Day, she possesses no superhuman powers. When she later became a member of the New |
